The Guild 2019-20

Posted on 2nd May 2020

Cupar Old Guild didn’t quite manage to finish the year off with their AGM because of the lockdown. We’re not sure when we’ll be able to meet again, but as soon as it is safe to do so we will. In the meantime here is a short report of our year.

The Guild had another good year with excellent speakers again. Always a worry - are we going to get enough speakers? - but God never fails us. Jeff started us off with our Rededication, with the children, a lovely gesture and then he spoke on the theme at our first meeting.

Our theme for the year was Companions on the Road and some of our talks involved companions - Arthur Lloyd and companions on their trips to Barra, Allie and Jane on their trip to Lesotho. The companionship of the Ukulele group and how they all played so well together.

There were talks about the Guild projects that we supported: Seema’s Project and Join up the Dots. There was an extra project talk on Malawi Fruits which had been postponed from last year because of bad weather.

We had some fun talks from Andy Paterson and his Stars of the Silver Screen and a firm favourite, Colin Moore, who spoke to us about the Real Sherlock Holmes. Jane Crockett gave us an update on The Lighthouse in her own inimitable way and what a welcoming place it is, shining a beacon on Cupar. Elspeth took us back to our childhood when we sang 4 French songs when she spoke about French Connections, and her love of France and all things French.

Fundraising was very successful too, partly due to our very popular Scottish Night. With that and the two soup and pudding lunches, plus donations and offerings, we raised £1209. This money will go towards the projects we are supporting, the church, food bank and The Lighthouse, just as soon as we are able to disburse it.

Christmas lunch was very much enjoyed at the Courtyard this time. Finally the World Day of Prayer was held in the Parish Centre this year with around 45 people present.

My thanks to the Committee and the members of the Guild for all their attendance, support and help. Keep well everyone and stay safe.
