The Context for the Role
Cupar Old Parish Church sits at the centre of the market town of Cupar and is well established as a place of meeting for all ages in the Old Parish Centre. The church aims to be a Christian community “where everyone matters”, and through worship, discipleship and fellowship to encourage all ages in their faith in Jesus Christ. We recognise the potential to connect with the rising generation through creative youth ministry, and are looking for a person who will give the lead in engaging with youth and developing a sustainable youth programme. Responsible to: The Kirk Session of Cupar Old Parish Church
Line Manager: TBC
Purpose: To support the spiritual formation and discipleship of young people within the church family. To provide support, encouragement for and walk with our young people.
Responsibilities and Tasks
To develop creative approaches to engaging and retaining youth
To engage and build relationships with the pre-teenagers and youth in the church
To create paths for faith and discipleship for young people
To organise social and fun events for the young people
To take an active part in the life of Cupar Old Parish Church as appropriate.
The immediate areas of focus would be to:
Build relationships with the young people in the church
Leadership and development of a weekly programme for a youth group (High School age) for youth in the church. Date/time of this group to be established.
Support programme of social activities for P5-7 age group to support relationships and connections
Skills and Abilities Required
A lively Christian faith
Skilled in pastoral work and spiritual development of youth
Proven leadership ability and team-building capability
Experience in youth based work
Personal Experience and Qualities
A support group will work with the successful candidate to act as a sounding board for ideas and issues, and to offer local knowledge on engaging with the congregation and community.
Terms and Conditions
The post a part time post (5-7 hours per week) plus expenses. Monthly timesheets to be submitted with hours worked. Expenses will be paid.
Subject to disclosure under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, the successful applicant would be appointed from September 2017.
